The Story of - BLACK (Original story by Karina Rozario Varu)

The Story of - BLACK

One night when Black was sleeping, she saw a weird dream, she woke up in the middle of the night, it was as if the well of evil was calling her, the well of evil was near the valley of death, situated in the middle of the city in between paradise and hell, it was named the city of Omen. Just at the boundary of the city of Omen, was the House of God, known as “The Church”.

The well was situated in the city of omen, the city was created by God.

The next morning Black felt a tinge in her heart and again thought that the well of evil was calling her, so she visited him.

The well of evil once was a good spirit, created by God, he was white and would glow as beautiful as the snow!

Certainly, this good spirit had many friends, he was very nice back then, and happily lend a helping hand to an orphan child who was left orphan by the killer of its parents, but the child refuted and complained to God, that it wanted to go back to its parents who were in Paradise, and; God had no choice, The God of Destiny had been very cruel to the child, and hence God had to leave the child in paradise,

The well of evil had saved the child’s life, but out of rage of the child’s ungratefulness, he killed it.

God told him “What did you just do?” she replied, “I was so kind to her, but she broke my heart”, God could sense the evil in him and by his behaviour could judge the further consequences hence turned it into, The well of Evil, in the valley of Death.

So, the well of evil called Black and asked her “What was something she thought no one can tell her, but the well will answer it”, Black was very shrewd yet naïve, she said, “I want to know the reason of the existence of all beings”.

The well of Evil replied “The existence of all beings is due to their will to survive”, Black thought the well knew a lot and was astonished by its knowledge,

So, the well of Evil cunningly asked, what was is her deepest desire, “I will fulfill it for you, but for that you will have to do me a favour”, Black asked what was it he wanted him to do?

He said, “I want you to go around and walk from your house, to the house of God, which is famously known as ‘The Church’ by mankind, but I warn you do not enter the House of God, or else I will not grant your wish”, Black asked “Is that it” The well of Evil replied “I want you to walk down from here to the House of God, and tell me not ten, or five, or two but just one good thing you find in the midst of the ugliest things you encountered in your way, only one, and then tell me what you wished to happen with you after you see, what you’ve seen along the way, but be truthful to your soul”.

The well of Evil intended Black’ soul, who was naïve of the intentions of her new friend.

The well of Evil, was known for its cunningness, rage, betrayal and vengeful nature.

The next day Black started walking from her house, while Black was walking down observing the nicest or the happiest thing she could have found, it saw two best friends, they were having a conversation, and suddenly, Black heard a sharp voice, it was as if someone was murdered,

Brutus had killed his best friend, who said in vain “Brutus, I kept you like my child”

Hence, the first ugliest thing among all the good he was trying to find was, betrayal, it felt her just like “the kiss of Judas", to Christ before he was crucified”.

Ceasar said to Black:

The man who has

no fear of betrayal,

With no guilt,

Kills his foe!

Black moved ahead, treaded slowly, as she saw a woman, crying heavily who left her husband, because he had committed adultery, she was heartbroken, she was very broken on the inside.

The woman said to Black:

The man who has

no fear of evil,

Will see no blossom grow!

Black kept walking ahead, in hope of finding something good,

She moved ahead and saw an elder brother, who was given, the only land his father had, for his hard-work, but the second son did nothing, so he was offered nothing, in his wrath, the second brother destroyed the whole land,

The first brother said to black:

The man who has

no inner peace,

Will just be as fleeting as

the winds blow!

Black now had reached near the house of God, which was the church, seeing adultery, betrayal and anger in the souls, she thought, the well of Evil gave her this task, as she had eyes as black as the night, and could see the evil that was there over the good she assumed of existing, in the city of Omen,

Now that she saw all the ugliness of the world, she was so depressed, she wanted someone to kill her, so she moved towards the well of Evil, her last wish that ‘she wanted someone to kill her’,

Off to her surprise this was what the well had intended for her, he wanted her soul, as a revenge of the child’s betrayal and God’s injustice towards him,

But in the midst of everything, she met a woman, who asked “Why are you so sad”, Black replied “Now, that I have seen all the ugliness of the world, I wish to die”.

The woman said to her, before she does so and goes to The well of Evil, she suggested her to visit the house of God,

Black told her “But the well won’t grant her wish, and now her only wish was to die”

But the woman smiled at her and said “try to do as I said”

Black entered the Church, the angel was reading the Gospel, the angel was narrating the story of the woman who was saved by Jesus from being stoned to death, by the other religious men and pharisees, who had caught her committing “adultery”

She narrated “Jesus saw the woman, they asked him “What saith thou?” and Jesus asked the woman “Do ye wish to condemn any men among these men” the woman replied “No, my Lord” the woman was crying and was scared for her life.

Jesus said to all men standing there “The man who has no sin, throw the first stone”, and Jesus said to her “Go, and sin no more”.

These were the words and action of grace black had never heard before, Black never thought anyone to be that humble, and forgiving to someone else. Black  was now relieved of all the ugliness she had seen of the city of Omen, this was the most beautiful thing she had ever heard of! To forgive and extend your grace to someone in need.

She went back to the well of Evil, and the well asked her, “What is your wish, that you have seen all the ugliness of Omen”.

She said “Colour me, the colour of Love”.

The well of Evil replied in rage “I warned you not to enter the house of God, you will pay for it”

Soon came some evil spirits, they were the same souls she saw while on her journey, she realised it was all a trap by The well of Evil, as he intended her soul, she was scared for her life and had in all this she tightly held the rose plant, the only beautiful thing The well of Evil had kept to attract naïve visitors, the thorn cut the hand of Black, and it started bleeding, the blood fell into the well, and she heard a voice in rage it said “ what have you done, you have coloured me the colour of love, it was within you, in your blood”.

Soon all the spirits vanished and Black saw a holy spirit in the sky, and was happy that Black herself had the colour of love, the reason of all being’s existence was love, forgiveness and extending your grace to someone in need.

The Righteous Woman - By Karina Rozario Varu (Original Short Story)

The Righteous Woman - By Karina

In a hamlet was a little house where lived a young blind woman, she had by God’s grace very little in life, as for the other women in the village she cribbed the most; of whatever little she had and how the other women were blessed to have the best of whatever little God had given them,

She had a husband whom she loved the most, who also was blind they had no children, whenever there was a feast in church whenever they would be in parish nearby the village … she would often pray in front of God … and tell him how she wished to see all the colours. She often complained she can see neither black or white colours either, and how God has been very unkind and unfair towards her.

She trained herself so well, she knew anything that was kept in her house or near the marketplace if she wanted, she could visit.

But was still very unhappy of Gods unkindness towards her…

There were many other women in the hamlet who used to speak too many righteous tales, and would make her understand how everyone in the world has been given their own share of problems and why she should be thankful towards what she has rather than of cribbing of what she doesn’t.

Along with this they even showed how much they cared for her and her husband through their petty talks.

In a village near the hamlet lived some dogs … who would bite the children whenever they wanted some food and had none to eat. These dogs were famous of being aggressive, majorly individualistic by nature and uncivilized, in the whole village.

She often visited the village and spoke to the other animals who were fed up of the dogs in the village and found them to be a nuisance.

One day, one small dog named Khalifa had entered the house of the Blind Woman who was badly been bruised by the villagers. Khalifa told her to please let him rest at her place for a night as he is been badly bruised, but by the morning, the Blind Woman cooked some breakfast for Khalifa and told him not to go out as it would be very unsafe for his life to go out at such a time when the villagers are hunting for all the dogs in the village and would leave neither.

She asked him why do you dogs bite the children, Khalifa told her it was not his fault it was the other group who did the act and now the whole community of the other dogs would have to face the consequences.

He told her she is a kind lady better than God … who is very biased and unkind towards certain groups of people and beings.

Khalifa narrated the reason of the dogs biting the villagers is not just food, but also there unkind and selfish behaviour, he told her how difficult it is for the dogs to find shelter, food, clothes in winters to sleep peacefully or even quality education they call us uncivilized but how to become like them when they are not giving us education.

The blind woman told Khalifa that she really never knew about the Dogs Individualistic Nature and how they were fighting for their rights. And how it is a good thing.

Days came and days went the conversations between Khalifa and the blind woman deepened. She said to Khalifa I can relate to you God has been unkind to her too…

And maybe it is only the one with the broken leg can understand the pain and the suffering of another broken leg. She promised Khalifa she will speak to the villagers and will find some way of for the dogs who’ve been hiding to save their lives.

The very next day the Blind Woman arranged a meeting of Khalifa with the villagers where they all had a discussion, Khalifa told them the lack of education is the reason for them being uncivilized,

But the villagers refuted and said that providing education to animals is against the law of nature, the blind woman intervened and they came up to a conclusion that the dogs can be left uneducated till they are accepted for their differences from humans, they have a streak of being individualistic and fighting for their rights where – it is fact that “no such rules are written” under any law to prove them wrong.

For food, shelter and clothing, they will be sent to another forest where they can live by their own and in their own surroundings and no human will be there to discriminate.

Khalifa was very happy and thanked the Blind woman and the Villagers

She provided all the animals of the village with basic necessities and was called as the most morally upright, genuine, kind and a Righteous Woman by all the animals in the Village …

Soon the villagers who were not happy by the idea understood, why does God not intervene in every matter … he does wants humans to show his most loved qualities which are Love, Humility and Humanity.

The blind woman – going forward was known as the most Righteous Woman by the villagers who did something for others not by petty talks but by her generous acts.

The Village of Aberta and the Oak Tree - by Karina Rozario Varu (Original Short Story)

The Village of Aberta and the Oak Tree - By Karina

Some way, far away from the village of Aberta, was a beautiful garden, there were many gardens far away in other villages but none like the garden near Aberta, the garden was as if a blessing of God to the villagers who lived there and worked hard for a living. Inside the garden, there lived a 20-year-Old Oak Tree, she had many other friends in the garden including The Banyan tree, The Bamboo tree, The Pomegranate tree and The Mango tree.

Seasons came and seasons went but the tree had not a single leaf or flower that was willing to blossom on it. It was for sure called the ugliest in the garden. So, people often ignored the fact that it did even exists.

The Old Oak Tree had another best friend, high above in the sky, named the moon, who without fail every single night came to visit her.

Every tree apart from the Old Oak tree, had its own quality including the moon with a sapphire like moonlight, which was like a guiding light for the villagers during the night.

The villagers loved the moon, they thought – it was another blessing of God, because it was beautiful and helped them in the night when they went back home after a tiring day.

One day when the kids were playing in the garden a little kid asked his mother, what does the mango tree do and why is it at the centre of the garden…

The mother replied “it is at the centre of the garden because it is the most beautiful and has the tastiest fruit which is called – The Mango… The Mango is loved by many children”. The kid was pleased to know and wanted one mango too… The Mango tree bowed down and helped the kid take as many fruits of mango, as he could. The little kid said The Mango tree is very kind and gave me as many mangos I wanted.

Soon came an Old Man who was not feeling well, he wanted a Pomegranate from the pomegranate tree to make its Juice, he said “O my young, beautiful tree could you give me two fruits from your branch, I am not feeling well and need to drink the pomegranate Juice! tonight before supper it’s the only fruit which can cure me, I cannot visit the doctor I am very poor, I remember my mother telling me when I was a little child! He said to her granddaughter who was awed with the beauty of the fruit, and added “The Pomegranate fruit helps you get better when not feeling well, and you should eat as many my child because it would taste good to you too”. The girl said, “Grandfather it surely looks very beautiful from the outer side I want to drink the Juice too”.

The kids were busy playing and climbing the banyan tree, it was the favourite tree of the children of Aberta, they would play as many games around it.

As the children were playing in the Garden, a group of men and women were discussing what to do with the Oak tree, it’s of no use the garden is as beautiful as I read about in the bible of “The Garden of Eden”, but the old Oak tree takes away all its beauty what should we do? shall we burn it alive, another woman said “O do not do that it for sure is ugly but burning the tree alive will for sure affect the whole garden”.

An old granny started grumbling “God has blessed us with a beautiful garden, with only one ugliest thing in it, anyways I have heard even the moon is not perfect either, not as beautiful as we think, apart from the sapphire like moonlight we are blessed with”.

Their talks and petty discussions went on and on, till the evening passed and they went back to the Village of Aberta, every family in the village thanked God with a prayer before their supper – filled with happy moments and their share of little bit of grumblings.

They believed God was an Artist and only Aberta had a garden as beautiful as the Garden of Eden.

In the village lived an Axeman – whose name was Esther he lived there with her daughter, he everyday visited the garden during the night while walking back home…and at times would even sleep there under The Bamboo tree after a tiring day of hard-work and sweat.

He lost his wife many years ago, his daughter Eva was very dear to him, he loved her more than himself. He often told her daughter bedtime stories during Saturdays, he every week took a leave on Sunday from his hectic work life to spend a full day with his daughter, all the stories he narrated her were filled with morals, Eva was a sweet little girl, she obeyed her father and enjoyed spending time with him, Sunday was Eva’ favourite day. Eva meant everything to Esther.  Similarly, Esther, was everything to Eva, the beautiful father-daughter relationship was famous in the Village of Aberta and everyone thought Esther was blessed with an obedient daughter like Eva.

Esther was a humble and kind man who was very nice to the Oak tree, hence the moon would tell him the tales of his visit to different places every night he came to rest in the garden after work,

The moon also often narrated God of whatever he saw and happened on the earth; he told God that Esther was a very good man who did good deeds, indeed he was blessed with a daughter like Eva. This was the reason why Esther was dearest to God and the moon among all the villagers in the village of Aberta.

One night when Esther was sleeping under the Bamboo tree, the villagers started running away from the Village, and Esther saw them! Looking at the villagers run like this he asked one old man who was running as slowly as the snales, “What just happened, why is everyone so scared and running away from Aberta? He replied in a squeaky voice “There is a huge Python that has entered the village everyone is scared and is escaping the village to save their life”. Esther got scared for Eva and he was not sure what to do as Eva was alone in the house, He pleaded the Mango tree, give me one branch I will scare the Python away with the fire, but the Mango tree said, “O you wish to ruin my life, for the selfish Python, O no do not touch my branches and get off me”

Esther started crying he was so scared for Eva,

He asked every tree but they all refused, in the end he begged the Bamboo tree to give him just one small branch of its, he told her he had a little girl who was the dearest to him, dearest than his own life, The Bamboo tree said “Get off me, the kids play with my branches if you took them away, I will get more uglier than the Oak Tree”

The moon was listening to everything he told, its midnight asks the Old Oak tree maybe she could be of some help to you, shall I ask on behalf of you, she is my best friend”,

Esther was crying badly, He pleaded the Old Oak tree and said, “Dear tree my daughter is alone and there is a python that has entered Aberta shall I cut some of your branches I will scare the Python away with the fire”.

The Oak tree said, I am the oldest tree in the garden with no leaf or flowers for so many years, they refuse to blossom on me, take all my branches, burn fire and save your daughter and the villagers. Esther took the branches of the Old Oak tree,

He ran towards Aberta and saw that the Python had entered the villagers he had already crushed a few village men with its coil and was moving towards Esther’ hut, Esther with all his will and might ran towards his hut to save Eva. He burned fire to the branches and threw it towards the Python, the Python’s body caught fire, and it got burned alive, in the end Eva’ life was saved.

The other morning Esther narrated the whole conversation between him and the Old Oak Tree, the villagers went to the Garden and thanked the Old Oak Tree, the Oak tree was very humble and happily accepted the wishes of the villagers.

One man said, it was the most beautiful tree he ever came across,

Another woman said, I never thought she was this nice I always ignored her due to her ugliness, but now I know how beautiful she is… a little kid shouted out with glee and said “Indeed, she was imperfect, but the only one who was perfect!”.

The Villagers lived happily ever after. And the Old Oak tree was the most loved amongst the other trees by the villagers, who indeed looked beautiful on the outside, but shallow on the inside.

My Poems : Karina Rozario Varu (Hindi-Urdu-English)

 POEMS BY KARINA ROZARIO VARU

I wrote my first poem when I was very little, the happiness it brought to me was something I cannot explain in words (Even though I am a writer). And I had named my first poem “Wistful”,

I will certainly share it with you:

(Wistful)

When the rain of tough circumstances

Do not respite

But become the bleach

Of the colours of your life

Leave you black and white

Heralds of breakthrough

No will, no might …

Bring back my joyful days

Bring me the glittering lights

End of my sorrows;

End of my soulful cries.

Another poem:

"The Orphan"

No one will ever know what I lost,

The empty lanes,

The dark window panes,

What did they cost,

The hollow in my heart

Asks allowed

Her memories

Her love

Her care

What was it all about

My shallow heart doesn't pound,

Gone are the festivals and sounds

The only thing

I remember

The only word

Left in my heart

I have missed you mom

Since the start

Another Limerick (means) – five lines rhymed to create something funny.

So here is my first limerick, style (AABBA)

Sapphire (The Limerick)

There was a girl named sapphire,

Her face was like a tyre,

She was so round,

She couldn’t see the ground,

so she only looked higher!

who knew the love for the melancholy emotion will last for such so many years, that I will end up writing my first set of poems on the same theme “Melancholy”, yes, the theme of these set of poems is the melancholic emotion;

I hope you will like the emotions of pensive sadness; of longing and emptiness I have tried to fill in this blog. For reading my blog, thanks a tonne!

By no means, I want people to get into depressive states, melancholy is an emotion deep rooted in me, and I write only how I feel, this is for every artist, reader, writer and poetry lover.
